When people say, 'I couldn't foster because it would be to hard to give a dog up' We say 'How can it be harder than knowing a dog died because no foster home stepped up?' and that's why we do it time and time again.
A Dog's Prayer: "Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in the entire world is more grateful for your kindness than mine. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends and your entertainment. I only have you."

Final Post and Closing a Chapter

Well...it's been a crazy (dog lady) fostering ride!
I have enjoyed working with so many dedicated rescue volunteers, coming together for a common goal...to save lives.  As the saying goes 'all good things must come to an end'  This now closes a chapter in my (rescue) life and adventures with LOYAL Rescue.   I will continue to help animals in need, however it will be with a different rescue.  I'll never forget this experience...it's been a slice.

To continue to follow my adventures in rescue, please go to my new blog HERE.   I hope to see you all on the other side.

Take care,

Donna

A very BIG Animal Rescue Corp. (ARC) UPDATE!

Well, it's been more then 2 years since the adoption of our beloved Anishnabe 8 Dane/Newf x pups, who were rescued by Animal Rescue Corps. (ARC) on that cold winters day back on November 2011.   Many have been excited for the long awaited update on the pups and their families, so here it is!!

A HUGE Thank YOU goes out  to one of the adopters of  pup Sable, (now a very dear friend), for putting together this amazing update on all the pups and their Big Daddy, Veteran.  It took countless hours for her to organize and put together... contacting each and every adopter personally via phone and internet.  Simply amazing!!  This particular foster story will forever be our crowning (fostering) glory, none of which we will ever see the likes again.  A once in a lifetime experience.  Little did we know back then that this experience would forever change our lives..along with 8 little lives and countless others.  We couldn't be more proud of all 8 pups and their new families.  All are happy and healthy and living the lives they were meant to live.

UPDATE:
A reunion was held in the summer 2014 with the pups (and their Big Daddy) and their families.  We were so fortunate that 5 out of the 8 pups and their families were able to attend, and especially honoured to finally get to meet the pups Big Daddy Veteran, whom I've been loving on ever since I first saw ARC rescuing him!   My heart will never be the same after this experience and is now FULL.  It doesn't get any better then this.

Nutmeg's close up with Gotcha Photo Studios

We recently had the opportunity to have Nutmeg's photo's professionally done with an
amazing photographer Jen Ryckman Worrall of Gotcha Photo Studios.  What I love about Jen is
that she is very supportive of rescue animals  and works tirelessly to help find them
homes, posting them on Facebook as well as her Gotcha website
.  Jen makes herself available at the drop of a hat and will travel to get the job done, as well as attends
fundraisers in support of rescue animals, raising much needed funds.  Many very deserving rescue animals have found homes as a
direct result of Jen's photos.  Please visit her website and check out all the adoptable's looking for
homes.  Let's get them home.

Applications for Nutmeg can be submitted on-line at Loyal Rescue's website

Nutmeg and her foster counter-part JoJo (Joe)
also up for adoption with Loyal Rescue

Nina and Rio updates

Nina and Rio are doing wonderful!  I couldn't be more proud of both of them as foster mom.  Socially, they have grown by leaps and bounds, especially Rio. Both enjoy regular trips to the leash free dog park and learning that people are good.  Nina really likes meeting people and prefers to socialize with them, while Rio enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs. Nina is the one most likely to want to snuggle up and warm your lap.  Rio is a goofy clown who will keep trying to get other dogs to play. They  keep all of us entertained daily with their antics.  No one can  believe that these two have not been snapped up yet; neither can we!  Everyone who meets them finds them irresistible.  They are such fun pups, well behaved and so happy!  Oh, did I mention very smart too!  They are definitely food motivated and love to please you.  They sit immediately and wait patiently at dinner time and are very attentive to me; good on recall (at the leash free park only) as I never allow a dog off leash in unsecured areas because even the best trained dogs can be unpredictable, easily distracted, especially if they are prey driven.  Speaking of prey driven, Nina and Rio are very good with our cat; curious, will smell, but mostly just ignore her, so they would be okay in a home with cat(s) too.  House training is going well and both have indicated to us that they need to 'go', although not consistently, but they do get it.  Accidents are rare.

I've noticed recently a few times (with no consistency) that Nina has been sick in the car. It's not clear at this time if this will be ongoing or long term as this does not happen every time we travel in a car. No consistency with how soon after we feed her to when she goes in the car either.  I'm confident this is most likely temporary as some dogs do outgrow this and Nina just might too as she grows and changes.  Stay tuned for updates on this as we go along.  If this does not change, not to worry, there are all natural products on the market that can be given, or your vet would be able to suggest something to help this.  Rio loves car rides and happily jumps in the car; he's always the first one in and the first one out! No hesitation, you don't have to ask  him twice.  It was recently discovered, after a long process of elimination, trial and error, and time, we began to suspect that Rio may have allergies, so over the past few months we've had him on vet prescribed, low allergen dog food  to test this, and I'm happy to report... success!!   We have recently started to slowly change his food over time to regular store bought, high grade, (wheat free, corn free, soy free) food,  and again...success!  I'm very happy and confident that we are now on the right path and can put this behind us.  We suspect that as Rio's immune system has changed, strengthened and he has outgrown this.  So glad to have that behind us.  Rio's pretty happy too. : )

Sheryl Crow joins ARC (Animal Rescue Corps) to End Puppy Mills! PSA

To say I was overjoyed when I heard about Sheryl Crow joining ARC's Team and promoting the work they do to save animals, is an understatement! I couldn't be more happy that she's done a PSA  called Educate 2 End Puppy Mills.

I have good reason to feel the way I do about ARC and Scotlund Haisley as they hold a very special place in my heart.  It was a year ago this past October that ARC went into a reserve in Quebec called Lac Simon,  dubbed 'Operation Anishnabe' and trapped and spayed/neutered/vetted several hundred stray animals on the Reserve, as well as those owned by residents of Lac Simon; the strays were sent into various rescues throughout Canada and the U.S.  This was where my 8 former foster babies, Dane/Newf pups came from.  I cannot thank each and every one of them enough for saving our 8 newborn (former) foster pups from certain death and bringing them into Loyal Rescue and my life.  They were still are my heart as I was mum to them; unfortunately the family who had their fur-mum didn't want to surrender her along with her babies, so the pups, my husband and I, with the help of many rescue friends and volunteers over the months took turns feeding and caring for them.   Today they are all gorgeous, happy and very healthy young pups.  You can view many more photos of their rescue efforts on Facebook.  Below are our Anishnabe Pups 8, just before coming into rescue.  Happy 1st Birthday my little ARC Angels!
