The Canine Bill Of Rights
I have the right to give and receive unconditional love. I have the right to a life that is beyond mere survival. I have the right to be trained so I do not become the prisoner of my own misbehaviour. I have the right to adequate food and medical care. I have the right to socialize with people and dogs outside of my family. I have the right to have my needs and wants respected. I have the right to special time with my people. I have the right to only be bred responsibly - if not at all. I have the right to some time and space all my own. I have the right to be foolish and silly, and to make my person laugh. I have the right to earn my person's trust and to be trusted in return. I have the right to be forgiven. I have the right to die with dignity.
Pupsicle Recipe:
1 ripe banana 4 cups orange juice 1/2 cup plain yogurt
Puree all ingredients in a blender or mash the banana by hand and combine with the juice and yogurt. Pour into a Popsicle mould, freeze, and serve to your favourite hot dogs.
You can switch up your fruit. Try watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, peach or mix in some peanut butter.
You can also vary the juice you use. Try pineapple juice or apple juice; just check to be sure the juice you use is all-natural and has no added sugar.

Iams Home For The Holidays
As a result of being in last year’s Iams Home For The Holidays program, LOYAL Rescue Inc. is being sent a LARGE donation of food from Iams!! There was a promotion that linked to websites such as Facebook and each time someone clicked that they "liked" the rescue; LOYAL got a bowl of dog food. Would you amazingly wonderful people like to know how much that translates into - food wise? A whopping 400lbs of dog food, and don't ask me why, but also 180lbs of cat food!!! Thank you all for spreading the word about this promotion and helping with all the doggies (and according to Iams, cats as well)!
Can-Pet Inc.
A big thank you goes out to April, of Can-Pet Inc for the wonderful donation of leashes, collars and various other canine items that was left at the LOYAL Rescue Inc. booth during Woofstock.

Past Event Updates:
I thought that everyone would like to know how each event turned out for Loyal Rescue Inc. So here are the updates:
Date: Sunday, June 12, 2011 – Woofstock K9 Rescue Me Walk-A-Thon Just letting everyone know that we had a GREAT time and enjoyed seeing everyone that came and saw us that day. LOYAL Rescue Inc. hasn’t received the full total amount raised from the walk yet but I know it’s over $1,000. This is money that will go towards our numerous vet bills. THANK YOU.
Date: Saturday, June 25, 2011 – WeinerFest in Thamesford Everyone had a great time. There were lots of people and doxies galore. Can’t wait for next year.
Date: Saturday, May 28, 2011 – Super Adoption Day in London. Loyal Rescue Inc. partnered with Animalert booth. We had pictures of our rescues needing homes, along with brochures and business cards. I hope that you stopped to chat with our Loyal Rescue Inc. volunteer Janet and submitted an application for one of our dogs. Great job Janet!!!
Pet Safety Information:
Important Information about Sugarless Gum:
Editor’s Note: This is from a pet owner and her doxie Lucy. Please be aware that if sugarless gum is dangerous for one breed of dogs, it’s dangerous for all. Accidents do happen, just try and be careful….our little piggy doggies depend on us.
On Tuesday Lucy found a pack of excel gum and ate the whole thing, she was taken to the vet and we discovered that the gum was poisoning her. It did not contain Xylitol which has been the sugar alcohol known to be lethal to dogs, but it did contain other 'sugar alcohols' Maltitol, Sorbitol, and Mannitol. The alcohol in those ingredients has damaged her kidneys, permanently. Lucy finally came home today, after spending 4 days at the vets on IV fluids, she pulled through. After multiple blood tests and an ultrasound it looks like she may have lost half of her kidney function, we won't know for sure until the next set of tests in a couple weeks. I am posting this to warn other dachshund owners who may have a greedy little pig dog like mine who will inhale anything they find. Lucy is my best friend she comes with me everywhere and I almost lost her this week over a pack of gum. Sugar alcohol is lethal when ingested by pets I didn't realize how lethal until this week.
Volunteer Job Postings:
Phone Screeners – we need some phone screeners as we are getting short again. This is how I started in the rescue and it’s a very rewarding way to spend 1 hour of your time to speak to a potential adopter. We provide the questions that you need to ask and after the phone interview is completed you send in your report. Takes approximately 1 hour out of your personal time.
Home Visitors – Also another needed position to fill. You will choose what areas you are available to visit for us. Again you are given a questionnaire to fill out for us and send in after you have visited the home. As always, safety is first for Loyal Rescue Inc. and if you arrive at the designated home and do not feel comfortable, you are definitely not required to enter the home.
Foster Homes - we need them in order to be able to rescue more dogs. We are getting a manual in place and if approved you will have a mentor that will help you every step of the way. We have foster homes in London, Mississauga, Ottawa, Peterborough, Kitchener, Hamilton and even in Baltimore and Rochester, New York, so you don't necessarily need to be in Toronto.
Send your request to our Volunteer Email and we will reply with any questions you may have on any of the above positions.

Requesting Help: Shelter Click Challenge
We need each and every person receiving this message to take a minute right now, and a minute each day for the next few weeks, so that we can reward this extra special effort our members put out. It's called the Shelter Click Challenge. In the last challenge, we WON. And the funds were awarded by random draw to 8 of our groups that each used the funds to rescue more pets. This time if we win, 8 different groups will be randomly chosen and the winnings will be divided among those groups. Please help us by first forwarding this message to your contacts, friends, etc. We then need you to vote. If you don't know how, here's the page with instructions:http://www.helpinghomelesspets.com/sc.
It will only take you a minute and the few minutes you invest will save the lives of many pets. Many people say to me they are not good at fund raising and ask me how I can do it. I tell them I'm not very good at it either, but when it comes to the animals I find it is easy to ask for help. So here goes, "Please take a minute and click to help our rescued pets!!"
Yours truly, Rob Goddard, President Helping Homeless Pets
