Something to consider before getting a dog.  Senior dogs are just as wonderful to have as younger dogs, they are wonderful in different ways; sometimes for the better depending on your lifestyle, energy level, activities, preferences.  Young dogs and puppies are NOT for everyone.  Sometimes a more senior dog is a better 'fit' for your home and family.  Have a look and see if it changes your mind about older dogs.  It's very informative and a great read.  Check it out!   It might save an older dogs life.

Rocco's Story

Hellooooo world, my name is Rocco! and this is my story...

I was dropped off at a shelter by my previous owners (who adopted me 3 years earlier from the same shelter).  I was able to 'see' at that time, but during my time with my previous owners, for some unknown reason, I went blind.  After they dropped me off all I did was cry for them, so the shelter staff kept me close to them, hoping to calm and soothe me.  They felt I was too upset to be in the kennels.   I was scheduled to be 'put down' 3 days later, so that's when the shelter contacted rescue in an attempt to save my life! That's when Loyal Rescue Inc. came into my life; just in time too!!   You see, Black dogs are less adoptable then those with lighter coloring; never mind that I'm blind and a bit deaf to boot!    Check out this video to see what I mean.  It's called 'Black Dog Syndrome' and it does exist.  I would not have made it in the shelter.

Please open your heart and mind to a Black Dog, we really are no different are are just as deserving of a forever loving home and family.  Thank you.  Now my foster mom has a few words to say about me.

Sweet and affectionate, Rocco loves to go on walks and is wonderful on leash.  Other then being blind and possibly partially deaf, he has no known health issues and has had a full wellness test and he's very healthy.  He is almost perfectly house-trained, so that is coming along nicely.  He will let you know that he has to 'go' by barking or getting up and going to the door. Rocco is also crate-trained.  He is still uncertain of his surroundings, so it's best he is the only dog in the home.   With his tail wags when we come home, he is such a happy, go lucky little guy full of gratitude, greeting us in excitement!   He is coming out of his shell.  He has also engaged me in frisky play & tug of war. He is so grateful to know he is loved, has a warm bed to sleep in, good food to eat & to be given a second chance at finding his forever home.  Rocco is adjusting really well in our home.  I put a leash on him when he first arrived to guide him along and familiarize him with the layout out of our home.  He's quite happy and content to find his way around with confidence.  Trust me, he's not a complainer.  Rocco is a quiet boy who just loves attention from his humans.

Blind dogs are just as awesome as non-blind dogs!

1. A blind dog will love you forever, in ways you never imagined.
2. A blind dog will adjust so well that you will be amazed and your faith in the universe will be restored.
3. A blind dog will impress your friends and family, because nobody will believe he/she is blind.
4. A blind dog will amaze you with his/her ability to map.
5. Blind dogs can learn and become assistance dogs: open doors for you, track items by scent, etc.  They can pull sleds and scooters, do agility and freestyle dancing, win obedience championships, inspire books and videos, and much, much more.
6. Blind dogs will make you a great trainer, because they love the attention and do a great job for you.
7. Blind dogs will make you laugh, because they get into all kinds of funny situations and truly warm your heart.
8. Blind dogs will inspire you, because they have incredible courage and demonstrate it in the matter-of-fact-way that an expert acrobat does flips in midair
9. I will never complain that I am blind, I will get on with the business of LIFE with  ABILITY, AGILITY, and LOVE.
10. I will LOVE YOU MORE than any other creature on the planet ever could.
11. I will give you more 'proud parent' moments than you ever thought possible.
12. A blind dog will restore your faith in yourself, because you may never have thought of yourself as the kind of person that could care for a special needs' dog, and yet you will find that you can do it with pleasure.
13. I am capable of anything a 'sighted' dog can do, except catch a frisbee on the fly
14. I AM magic.
15. I will crave the sound of your voice.  I don't care how badly you sing.

Please take a second look at a 'Special Needs' dogs.  They deserve a second chance just as much as seeing non-black dogs do and have just as much love to give AND more!  They teach us so much!
