Well I'm pleased to announce that as of today, hundreds of dogs are now free from one of Canada's largest puppy mill in Quebec, where the laws on animal abuse are very lax. Several of our volunteers from Loyal Rescue Inc. are there as I write this helping with this massive rescue effort, so we will receive updates on an ongoing basis during the rescue effort. Here is a recent article along with video of the raid on this massive puppy mill bust in The Toronto Sun Remember, Puppy Mills have always thrived in secrecy in the past; hear no evil, see no evil; but NO more!! The secret is out and thanks to social media and the countless volunteers who give their time and money to help to free these innocent souls, hundreds of dogs will now have a chance at a life they would not have had. Donations are greatly needed, so if you can, please donate any amount at Humane Society International. Right now as it stands, 527 dogs were taken into custody; in less then a week, 90 babies were born to pregnant dogs and they have approximately another 30+ pregnant dogs that will give birth. They expect it to be 2 to 3 months before the courts make a final decision on whether or not they will be released and placed up for adoption, so donations of supplies, food and money will be needed on an ongoing basis until then. It is currently costing approximately $6,000 per day to care for the dogs. Blankets and toys are especially helpful. There are two drop off points:

As you know, this is a very personal and passionate subject for me to talk about. I have rescued many puppy mill survivors and currently have a mill survivor, Corky I'm currently fostering. Corky came to us, right out of a puppy mill, pregnant and unhealthy. Corky's left ear is missing and the vet thinks it's due to frost bite. Because of this, her ear has almost completely closed up, causing chronic ear infections and problems which she will most likely be prone to for the rest of her life. She also had a severe urinary infection. Two weeks after arriving in rescue, Corky gave birth to 5 healthy puppies, thank Dog they were all healthy and no complications!!! If rescue didn't come along for Corky, she would have spent the rest of her breeding life producing as many puppies for profit for that mill until she could no longer produce enough healthy pups to make it worth while for them to keep her. You don't want to know what they do with their unwanted dogs after they are through with them. Let's just the say the lucky ones make it out and find their way into rescue and eventually to their most perfect forever homes.
Corky and her babies were the lucky ones to make it out; not so many are. The living conditions are horrendous and unbearable! Puppy Mill 'breeders' look at these dogs as cash cows; a way to make quick $$$ off the backs of innocent little living, breathing, feeling souls. Please do NOT buy from pets stores or off the Internet. A lot of mills now post on many sites such as kijiji to try and sell these puppies to unsuspecting buyers, posing as 'breeders'. Many think they are 'buying' from a 'reputable' breeder, when in fact, they are not; they are 'buying' from a Puppy Mill 'broker' who makes $$ off the sale of each puppy they sell. They pose as 'breeders' to fool the unsuspecting public at large, so please, don't be fooled!!! Instead, be wise and choose rescue and save a life! Don't perpetuate the misery for these poor dogs.
Rescue is my favorite breed! What is yours?
