When people say, 'I couldn't foster because it would be to hard to give a dog up' We say 'How can it be harder than knowing a dog died because no foster home stepped up?' and that's why we do it time and time again.
A Dog's Prayer: "Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in the entire world is more grateful for your kindness than mine. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends and your entertainment. I only have you."

A 'Veteran' and his 'Sarge' - Like Father, Like Son

As you know by now, our Great Dane/Newf/Lab pups came from a reserve in Quebec and were rescued by Animal Rescue Corps. (ARC), dubbed 'Operation Anishnabe.'

When the pups first came into rescue, we were told that mom was a Newfoundland Dog and dad was a Great Dane, with possibly Lab in there somewhere.  Well, after seeing the pups and viewing all the pictures on ARC's  Facebook Page, as soon as we came across 'Veteran's' picture (we didn't know his name at the time) we knew instantly that he must be their daddy; although not confirmed at that time, it was only a guess, so of course we just had to know.

Now, to the best part.....pictures of dad along side his little protege.  Can you say like father, like son??

A 'Veteran' and his 'Sarge'
I just love the name 'Veteran'. How appropriate for such a sweet and gentle giant, who I'm sure has been through the war and has the battle scars to prove it.

There were a few of us who then wondered where did this gorgeous giant go?  What rescue was he with and how was he doing?  Well.......wonder no more.  You can read more about Veteran's rehabilitation at Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation's website, as well as when he will be up for adoption, which should be very soon.

How ironic that we named 'Sarge' and didn't know that his daddy's name is 'Veteran!'  We also have a 'Sherman' (named after the Sherman Tank) and is the biggest pup in the litter!  Funny how things seem to work out.

All of the pups look like dad in one way or another, but Sarge is definitely his dad's boy with all the same coloring and markings!  If Sarge is going to be anything like his dad, then he is going to be one HUGE...  no, GINORMOUS dog!

Veteran has gained 15 lbs since arriving in rescue 2 weeks ago!

Veteran saying 'Thank You' for rescuing Me

I have many more recent pictures to post of ALL the Anishnabe Pups and will do so very soon.  They are growing and changing so much.

Thank you for visiting my Rescue Dog Blog!

  2. That's something else! I didn't even know that.  I think it suites Digby too; he does look 'tank like' LOL   He's one solid boy!  I love the name Sherman, even before I associated it with 'tank' LOL  I guess it was meant to be.  I think it's pretty awesome that both Sarge's and Sherman's daddy's name just so happens to be 'Veteran'  ...how appropriate!  : )
