When people say, 'I couldn't foster because it would be to hard to give a dog up' We say 'How can it be harder than knowing a dog died because no foster home stepped up?' and that's why we do it time and time again.
A Dog's Prayer: "Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in the entire world is more grateful for your kindness than mine. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends and your entertainment. I only have you."

Donna's Adventures - High Park and Harborfront, Toronto

We took Donna to the leash free park for a walk/hike for the first time since she arrived and boy did she ever love it!  She was very attentive to me and looking for me whenever I was out of her sight. She was great on recall as well.  If she got too far ahead, as soon as I called her name, she came running right back to me.  What a good girl she is.  She was very friendly and social with all the dogs at the park and if one became too overwhelming in her face, she would give a correction to let them know.  It was like she had been with us forever, when in reality, she's only been with us a few weeks.

We also went to Pawsway in good ol' TO for a fundraiser for a very special Mexican Dog named Hule, 'Machete' dog.  Here is a video of Hule's story.  There are many more pictures of the fundraiser for Hule on CANDi's Facebook Page.  A wonderful time was had by all! Although Hule's story has a happy ending and many families have stepped up to offer her a wonderful, loving home, this is not always the case for Mexican dogs.  They need us now. To learn more about the amazing volunteers and rescuers who rescue these precious dogs and provide much needed veterinary care provided through Vidas (International Veterinarians Dedicated to Animal Health)  and  arrange transport to Canada, please go to CANDi (Cat and Dogs International) to see how you can help, even if you can't volunteer as a foster home or transporter, or  'escort'  the dogs from Mexico, they always appreciate money donations of any amount; it all goes directly to help the dogs.  I know this for a fact.  Without us, these dogs have little hope.  Please consider helping any way you can.

CANDi needs volunteers in the Toronto area and surrounding to help save more Mexican dogs; consider fostering or adopting one of these precious pooches.  They are also in need of much needed monetary donations to help with medical care.  In some cases, it's a lifesaving operation, as is the case with Hule.  Without the countless volunteers and donators, Hule would not have received critical care needed to save her life.  We're so happy that she did and honoured to have met her.  A very Special Dog indeed!
